Papers relating to Archbishop Strong's years in New Guinea includes a number of addresses to the Synod, processed letters to the missionary staff and pastoral messages. Also includes a typescript copy of Archbishop Strong's recollections of his first three years in New Guinea written in 1942, a copy of his book "Out of Great Tribulation" and about 25 pamphlets all relating to Anglican missionary activity in New Guinea. The collection also includes about 15 pamphlets relating to the period when P. Strong was Archbishop of Brisbane and Primate of Australia.

Born in England, Archbishop Strong was ordained an Anglican minister in 1923 and served until 1936 in poverty stricken North England industrial parishes. He was Bishop of New Guinea from 1936-1963, remaining in the territory throughout the war. In 1963 he was enthroned Archbishop of Brisbane and in 1966 he was elected Primate of Australia.
